Pizza and pie are two foods that please just about anyone, including myself. So what’s better than combining the two of them in a sweet prunes and granny smith apple pizza pie?
This recipe is the perfect combination of tartness, from the granny smith apples, and sweet, from the dried prunes, a fruit that is in my opinion, underrated.
For this recipe I used California Dried Prunes which are naturally sweet and a healthier alternative that will satisfy your sweet tooth. I find prunes to be incredibly flavourful and they are jam packed with health benefits. These yummy fruits are a source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre. They also help support and promote good bone, heart and digestive health, plus support your immune system!
I know what you’re thinking, dried fruit is usually really expensive and drying your own fruit is an tedious process, however, California prunes in particular are surprisingly affordable in comparison to its other fruit friends and they are super versatile. You can use them in your fav recipes, or snack on them by themselves. They can be blended into your morning smoothie, thrown into salads or used in baking and cooking!
What I love about this pie recipe is that it’s super easy and really fun to make with your friends and family. Making pie can often be an exhausting process, but this is an awesome alternative to the complicated pies our grandmothers whip up with ease.
Add things like shaved almonds, cherries or berries to make this dish your own family favourite and don’t be afraid to break the rules and spice things up a little bit ;)!
Into medium sized bowl add your apples, plums, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir till well combined.Line a baking sheet or pizza screen with parchment and lightly grease with coconut oil spray. Gently place over your puff pastry and to the middle add your apple mixture. leave around 1 inch around for the crust and folding. Level your mixture out then begin folding over the sides to create a cute crust/pinched affect. Spray uncooked dough with coconut oil before baking.
Once ready bake in the over for around 20-25 minutes or until golden brown! You can check your apples and see if they’re cooked, if they are, then you know it’s ready!
