So I hear we’re sharing our 2016 🥲
A year that changed everything.
2014 I started @foodbymaria
2015 I started foodbymaria.com.
2016 I jumped in head first, no floaties, no plan, just vibes and olive oil.
I bought my first camera (RIP to the horrific but passionate food photography).
Moved back to Canada from the UK.
Learned how to love myself while learning how to use manual mode.
Took more photos than I ever have in my life.
I celebrated.
I danced.
I laughed a lot.
I believed, sometimes blindly, but fully.
Looking back, it’s messy, tender, and wildly sincere.
And honestly? I wouldn’t change a single blurry photo.

🔥 Fire Cider is hands-down my #1 herbal remedy. I use it all year long, but it truly shines during cold & flu season.

This is one of those recipes you make once and thank yourself for weeks. You’ll need to start it 3–4 weeks in advance so it can properly steep, then strain it and sweeten with honey 🍯

✨ What I love most?
�There are no rigid rules. You can completely customize this and make it your own.�That said… the real power players (in my opinion) are the ingredients listed from horseradish through rosemary, that’s where the magic happens.

⏳ Shelf life: about 1 month�🥃 Dose: 1 shot per day

🌿 Ingredients
🫙 1 extra-large jar with sealing lid (64 oz / 2 L)
🌱 1 cup fresh horseradish, sliced�🌶️ 2–3 small hot peppers, sliced lengthwise (jalapeños or habaneros — remove seeds for less heat)�🫚 ½ cup fresh ginger, cubed�🟠 ⅓ cup fresh turmeric, sliced�🧄 3 garlic cloves, sliced or lightly crushed�🧅 1 red onion, chopped (about 1 cup)�🌿 1 handful fresh thyme sprigs�🌿 1 handful fresh rosemary�🌱 1 handful fresh mint�❤️ 1 whole pomegranate, seeds removed or cut into sections�🍋 1 lemon, cut into half moons�🍊 ½ grapefruit, cut into half moons�🍊 ½ orange, cut into half moons�🫐 ½–¾ cup cranberries, fresh or frozen�❤️ ½ pomegranate, seeds removed (or ~½ cup arils)�🍎 1 liter / 33 oz apple cider vinegar (you’ll use about ½–¾ of the bottle)�🍯 Honey, to sweeten after straining

This is such a genius way to get that classic döner-style meat without needing a vertical rotisserie that cooks for hours and gets shaved into thin slices. Instead, everything crisps and cooks beautifully all at once.

The real key? A lamb + beef ratio that keeps the meat tender, juicy, and fatty in all the right ways while still getting perfectly crispy. ✨

Serve it stuffed into a kebab, laid out on a platter, or tossed into a salad—trust me, you’re in for a treat.

🚨 Here’s the recipe:

* 450 grams lean ground beef
* 450 grams ground lamb
* 1 large yellow onion, grated and excess juices squeezed out
* 6 garlic cloves, minced
* 1 tsp smoked paprika
* 1 tsp ground turmeric
* 2 tsp dried oregano
* 2 tsp kosher salt
* 1 tsp ground pepper
* 1 tsp garlic powder
* 2 tsp onion powder
* 3 tsp ground cumin
* ⅓ cup finely chopped fresh mint
* 1 tbsp tomato paste
* 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
* 1 tbsp beef stock paste
