Living a natural food diet mixed with a plant based diet can sometimes be hard, or so they say.  But I would have to disagree because this 10 minute pasta sauce recipe absolutely blew my mind – it is 100% vegan and damn delicious. It all starts with a perfectly roasted red pepper and more natural foods to heighten the flavours.  Things like creamy cashews and nutritional yeast really add depth to this super simple sauce, and I promise you will come thank me later.  It is THAT good!

I am a huge fan of vegetable recipes because I really love challenging myself and finding new ways to incorporate nutrients into things that might not always pack the most punch.  A lot of pasta sauces on the markets have loads of sugar and hidden ingredients but I promise you this natural food recipe has no secrets.

It is full of flavour, creaminess, and good-for-you ingredients!

You are going to love this pasta sauce recipe because is it:

  • quick + easy
  • delicious
  • nutritious
  • vegan
  • made using natural + organic foods
  • creamy + comforting

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we did! As always if you try the recipe please leave us a comment below, we love your feedback!

Kerri

This looks so good! Does it make a big difference not using the nutritional yeast if I don’t have it on hand?

Maria Koutsogiannis

Hey hun!

No you are totally cool to not use nutritional yeast here!! You will just notice it is “less cheesy” but still super delicious!

Kerri

I actually decided to get the nutritional yeast and make the recipe as is and it was so good! I’m new to vegan cooking and I definitely will make this again ? Thanks for posting such awesome recipes ?

Maria Koutsogiannis

I’ve made this twice and loved it every time. Hubby and guests love it too! I can’t figure out though, am I meant to use one cup of raw mushrooms and roast them, or roast mushrooms and use one cup of those. There’s a big difference in measurements before cooking and after!

Maria Koutsogiannis

Hey hun!

Im glad you like it, I love it too.

The recipe states one cup roasted mushrooms or 1 cup lentils. If you decide to use raw mushrooms then use 2 cups and you should yield 1 cup.

The most amazing sauce I’ve ever tried, I have even made my own version wish some kimchi juice and damn bomb.com

Maria Koutsogiannis

hey baby boy!!!! oh my gosh, yes, I love this sauce with kimchi! Thanks so much for trying it. love you!!

Roxanne Phillips

I can’t wait to try this recipe I’ll use fresh mushrooms though, quick question once they’re roasted do I add the peppers and mushrooms to the blender too?

Maria Koutsogiannis

Hey Roxanne, roasted or cooked is recommended so the mushrooms release all they’re moisture, you don’t want a watery sauce. And yes, eveerything goes into the blender!

Maria G. Bustill0

i made this twice in two days and both me and my boyfriend are obsessed, definitely a new go-to sauce 🙂

Maria Koutsogiannis

YESSSSS Maria yes!!! this is amazing, I love this sauce so much!

Tiani de Vera

Do the cashews need to be soaked before hand ?

Maria Koutsogiannis

I didn’t but you totally can to add even more creaminess. Note: I normally do but in this recipe it worked out fine without xx

Arielle

Hi! If using lentils instead of mushrooms, which type are you using?

Maria Koutsogiannis

Any type will work perfectly!

Candy Waters

So, worried about the cashews. I don’t have a high-speed blender like a Vitamix. What I have is the Ninja Mega Kitchen System (BL770) Blender. I’m hoping you or one of your readers is familiar with it and can tell me it can handle this recipe. Thanks!

Maria Koutsogiannis

It should be fine!
