🍲 Ingredients
Refried Beans – Refried beans provide plant-based protein and fiber for satiety. They’re a traditional Mexican dish of cooked and mashed beans. Homemade versions offer more control over sodium and ingredients. You can use canned beans for convenience without sacrificing nutrition.
Avocados – Avocados deliver healthy monounsaturated fats that support heart health. They’re packed with potassium, fiber, and folate for nutrition. Additionally, their creamy texture creates a luxurious layer in dips. So you get both health benefits and amazing flavor together.

👩🍳 How to Make This This 7 Layer Dip
Prepare Ingredients:
Step 1: Drain and rinse black beans thoroughly in a colander. Transfer to a medium bowl and mash with a fork. Mash until beans reach your desired consistency. Some prefer chunky, while others prefer smooth texture.
Cook the Bean Mixture:
Step 2: Heat olive oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add the mashed beans and diced red onion together. Cook for 5 minutes until the onion softens. Add oregano, cumin, chili powder, and garlic powder next. Cook for 1-2 minutes so spices bloom and release fragrance. Stir in hot sauce and lemon juice thoroughly. Add heavy cream and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch glass baking dish. Spread evenly and cool completely in the refrigerator.
Prepare the Avocado Layer:
Step 3: Mash two ripe avocados in a small bowl. Mash until the mixture reaches your preferred smoothness. Add chopped green onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Include fresh lime juice for brightness and acidic balance. Mix all ingredients together until well combined and creamy.
Assemble the Dip:
Step 4: Spread the avocado layer evenly over the cooled beans. Press gently to create a smooth, even surface throughout.
Step 5: Add a layer of sour cream on top. Spread evenly with a spatula for consistent coverage throughout.
Step 6: Spread the salsa layer evenly over the sour cream. Use fresh salsa for best flavor and results.
Step 7: Grate fresh cheddar cheese and sprinkle evenly on top. Ensure complete coverage for a cohesive, cheesy layer.
Step 8: Dice fresh tomatoes and distribute evenly over cheese. Pat the tomatoes dry first to prevent excess moisture.
Garnish and Serve:
Step 9: Sprinkle minced onion flakes, sliced olives, and fresh cilantro. Add these toppings just before serving for freshness. Serve immediately with tortilla chips for dipping pleasure. The dip tastes best enjoyed cold and fresh.

🪄 Tips and Tricks
- Layering: Layer ingredients in order for visual appeal and structural integrity.
- Prevention: Pat tomatoes dry and drain fresh salsa to prevent watery dip.
- Temperature: Keep the dip cold on ice during parties for best texture.
- Customization: Add jalapeños, corn, black beans, or ground beef for variety.
🗒 Substitutions
- Cheese: Use plant-based cheese for vegan diets. Monterey Jack adds creamier results. Pepper jack brings heat and flavor.
- Sour Cream: Replace with Greek yogurt for tanginess and protein. Dairy-free sour cream works well for vegan. Cashew cream creates a luxurious texture option.
- Beans: Use black beans or pinto beans alternatively. Or substitute chickpeas for different protein sources. Skip beans entirely for a lighter version.
- Toppings: Add jalapeños, green onions, or extra cilantro. Include corn, diced bell peppers, or olives. Swap for avocado instead of guacamole layer.
