Ingredient Notes

Cherry Tomatoes: Cherry tomatoes are small and nutrient-packed that are great for snacks, salads, pastas, and more. Compared with other types of tomatoes, they’re particularly rich in antioxidants and bursting with both colour and flavour.

Liquid Honey:  Who else enjoys honey straight from the spoon? Or do you use it as a sugar substitute to sweeten your baking or tea? Have your tried to whip it into a smoothie? For this spicy pepper and tomato butter board, I recommend drizzling the hot honey over the softened butter.

How To Make Spicy Pepper & Tomato Butter Board

To make the roasted tomatoes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425F. Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread tomatoes apart, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a pinch of chili flakes, salt and pepper and bake for about 15 minutes, until tender and starting to burst. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.

How to make the crispy baguette:

  1. Keep the oven at 425F. Using a bread knife, slice the baguette into 1-inch thick slices. Brush the baguette slices with olive oil on both sides and place in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast for 8-10 minutes total, until golden brown, flipping halfway through. Set aside.

Assemble the butter board:

  1. Make the hot honey by stirring together the liquid honey, chilli flakes and dijon mustard. Set aside.
  2. On a clean serving platter or cutting board, spread the softened butter over the board. Start by layering the cooled tomatoes (make sure they are at room temperature or they will melt the butter). Next, add the jalapeno slices and walnut pieces, sort of filling in space as you go. Finally, drizzle with the hot honey and another pinch of salt if needed. Serve with a crispy baguette.

Appetizer Idea Tips & FAQ

Forgot to take the butter out of the fridge to soften? Use this hack! Pour hot water into a large cup or bowl and let sit for 2-3 minutes. Pour the water out and then place the stick of butter in the vessel you chose and cover immediately. The heat will soften the butter in just a few minutes.

What can I serve a spicy tomato and pepper board with? Sourdough could be another delicious choice. Make sure to use softened butter so it’s super easy to spread.

Want to ramp up the flavor even more? Add the zest from a lemon to finish the board. If you’re using unsalted butter, you’ll want to add a few extra pinches of salt to the butter before layering the toppings.
