This delicious Greek chicken souvlaki recipe is easy-to-make and makes a great summer meal.
It only seemed fitting to have my first official chicken recipe on my blog to be a Greek-inspired dish. These Greek chicken souvlaki are a go-to for an easy dinner. They’re so simple to put together, they are delicious on the BBQ, and the leftovers go great in a wrap or salad for lunch the day after.

Why you’ll love Greek chicken souvlaki:
- Flavorful: The flavors in this marinade are seriously so good and delicious
- Versatile: Grill these up and eat them on their own, serve them in a pita, or on a Greek salad
- Kid-Friendly: The whole family will eat these up at your next BBQ
Ingredients:
Chicken: If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I was vegan for a very long time, however, over the years I have come out of my vegan shell and incorporated more protein into my diet. Not only is it an easy and versatile source of protein, but it also has a lot of great vitamins and minerals, is great for building muscle, promoting heart health, and so much more.
Greek Yogurt: Using Greek yogurt in marinades is a great way to make your recipe have another boost of protein, and also be creamy and delicious. I often use Greek yogurt as a substitute for mayo and sour cream in recipes too.
How to make Greek chicken souvlaki:
- Make the marinade by whisking together salt, pepper, minced garlic, dried oregano, lemon juice, mustard, greek yogurt and olive oil. Add the chicken cubes and let sit in the bowl at room temp for 30 minutes. Alternatively, cover and marinate in the fridge for 60 minutes.
- When the chicken is marinated, thread the chicken onto the skewers and heat the grill to medium-high heat, about 400F.
- Oil the grill well and when heated, place the skewers on the grill and cook, turning occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes or until cooked through (internal temperature reached 165F) and well browned.
- Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. See notes for serving suggestions.

Hi Maria, do you think this would work with pork too? I would love to try it and have a bunch of chops in the freezer. Thank you
yes! it would!
This recipe is so so good! When I first saw it, I kept scrolling trying to figure out what vegan brand of chicken you were using because the pictures looked amazing! Haha. So happy for you and your food journey, and super excited to (hopefully) see more chicken recipes 💛
thanks for the love, Lauren!
I was hoping it was ‘vegan chicken’ lol….I do appreciate you always including us plant based folks in your amazing repertoire! My question is….I believe that the yogurt helps with the tenderness of chicken…would I treat ‘vegan’ chicken the same way, marinading etc? What about tofu or tempeh? xo
That’s a good question! I would yes, it’s just a delicious marinade, just adjust to be vegan where needed!
Had a bunch of chicken in needed to cook – both breasts and thighs. This was the absolute perfect marinade for both. My family gobbled it up and declared me a culinary genius. 🧿❤️
And I have chicken to use in salads and meals throughout the week. Yummmmm.
Thank you so much, Mel!
